My daughter's boyfriend sent me a message last month on Facebook that Journey is playing in Santa Barbara Bowl, and that he bought us tickets already. It was their birthday present for me. I couldn't believe it that they will be in Santa Barbara. This would be my 3rd concert only for the year (I went to 5 last year). My daughter, her boyfriend and a dozen other friends came with us to the concert. My daughter and her bf convinced their friends from work that it would be a great concert. They live/work in Santa Barbara and all haven't been to a Journey concert before, except for my daughter and her boyfriend. My daughter's group are all in their 20's and 30's. We met before the concert, and most of them were not really sure how the concert is going to turn out. (I took my daughter and her bf with me to Big Island concert early this year, which was their very first Journey concert, and they loved it, they couldn't believed that Journey concert was that great)...One of their friends also invited her parents from Montana to come for the weekend for the concert. My dad, who is 78 years old also wanted to come, so my daughter got a ticket for him and exchanged my ticket to accompany him at the handicap section. We had a great view, excellent seats...we all had a really great time! My parents and I drove from the Bay Area to see the concert.
My daughter told me "all my friends were saying they had a really good time at the concert. And that Arnell sounds exactly like Steve Perry, ha ha. They all said if they came back to Santa Barbara they would definitely go again. Tori's parents from Montana were amazed. Kyle actually said it was one of the best concerts he'd been to."
My dad was dancing to the music, he was so amazed by Arnel and the band. He would definitely watch them again if another opportunity comes along in his remaining years in this life.
This was my first concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl, but my daughter has been always watching concerts at the bowl, and told me before that this is a great venue. It sure is, the Bowl is perfect for any concerts, and an excellent venue for the Journey.
I was standing by the Box Office waiting for my daughter and I talked to some people still looking for tickets on the day of the concert, but were turned down at the box office. They went looking, instead, for scalpers, lol.
The crowd is really a mix, young and old. I saw a lot of old people dancing to the music, and young people all having fun (by the way, one point in time, I told my daughter and her bf that I smell skunk, and she said, that was no skunk, it was marijuana, lol, sorry for my ignorance). Even the handicapped in our section were all singing, clapping and dancing to the music. The band's performance that evening was fantastic as usual, the sound was a lot better than in Hawaii or Reno, IMO. We are very sure that if they come again to Santa Barbara, my daughter could easily get 50 friends to come along with her, lol.
Journey Rocks!!! We love them all...Thank you for all the great concerts and for many more years to come!!!

this as always was a great show, lots of energy & singing. one thing, all the people who are not original members do a fantastic job, WHATEVER reason steve perry is not with the band does not mean our fans should disrespect him with there reviews. He wrote(or co-wrote) most of the songs your singing, you dont have to bash him for not being there.I havn't seen any bad reviews for gregg rolie, steve smith or steve augeri.Lets enjoy the band thats out there & wish ALL former members good luck with whatever they do & MAYBE see any of them one on stage. J.B.

As a belated anniversary present, I surprised my husband with tickets to the Santa Barbara show. We had to miss out when they came to Paso Robles for the fair in July and we were really bummed about it, so I was thrilled when I saw the ad on Facebook for the Santa Barbara concert.

We were so amazed at the musical talent of all the band members, and Arnel's voice is amazing. He has so much energy and seems like such a humble guy. Loved it when he kicked the beach ball back into the crowd. He has fun when he performs. We got the Revelation CD's and DVD about a week before the show and haven't stopped listening to it. Even my 8 yr old son is a fan now. It was a perfect evening--the music, the warm evening with the beautiful full moon and the Santa Barbara Bowl were all great. The energy of the crowd was incredible, and we just couldn't help singing along. They played a ton of songs but they could have easily gone on for another hour and we wouldn't have been tired of listening to them. I wanted to hear a few more of their ballads though. Love, love, love the rock ballads.

Steve who? Isn't it refreshing to have the "Voice" back in Journey? I saw the ELO opening tour at Angel Stadium 7/23/78 with Steve Perry and Gregg Rolie and Ansley Dunbar...Neal and his poofy afro; I saw Escape tour in Ventura (twice) 1981(Steve "Machine Gun" Smith)...saw the Arrival tour (2001)...the Generations tour(2005), a rainy Hollywood Bowl show in 2006(Jeff Scott Soto)...and now, with the INCREDIBLE voice of ARNEL PINEDA - this show had me will chills from the ELABORATE RANGE and POWER that the band has now...with Deen on REMARKABLE talent with his singing and drumming...this 7th show was BY FAR the best.
The ENCORE of ANYWAY YOU WANT IT was great; the entire show was ELECTRIC, and the energy and swagger is back . See you next tour; send Steve Perry a mobility chair and a case of Geritol and wish him well in the retirement home on bingo night.

There's a song called "Happy Feelin's" by Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly, that I was thinking about while watching this concert last night. This was my 4th Journey show this year and this one was the best. Not just because of the band, but because of the audience. Santa Barbara was really a Journey crowd. They showed up to have a good time. There were some very, very happy people at the show last night. Most were on a natural Journey high....some were also floating from the beverages that they were drinking...and then a few folks had a little extra help getting their happy on. Apparently, "no Smoking" signs were interpreted to apply only to cigarettes by some. Several people felt free to smoke things that I'm sure they were using for required medicinal purposes only... Anyway, the people last night were really into the band. Lots of Journey t-shirts being proudly worn.

Before the band even came out, some of the crowd got anxious and started clapping and whistling, wanting things to get started. Once things got underway, the audience seemed to have a really great time. Lots of dancing, lots of singing along to the songs....lots of appreciation being shown for the great music. Real party atmosphere, people even started tossing a beach ball back and forth to each other.

The band more than rose to the occasion with a very energetic performance that had some change-ups in some of the song arrangements from previous shows this year. Also change-ups as far as the set-list order. So last night felt really different from the other shows that I saw this year. It's cool when you can see multiple performances within a couple months and there's something different about each show. The band was probably really tired as they wind down this tour, but you couldn't tell that from their crowd pleasing performance onstage last night.

Performing in Disney this year? Wish I could be there! I wish for them to come back in Dallas, Texas or nearby next tour. My family will for sure be there!

I've seen them twice this year and both are all worth every drive and $$$s. People went crazy and singing-along is always a hit, for young and old. I hope someone have it on video, it is worth seeing it again.. and again. AP, you are still the best, you know how make your audience entertained and keeping us smile, especially those high notes that you were able reach. I know you are tired but still showed your best, getting better and better each time. I love the way you jump or fly or whatever. To Journey boys, have a well-deserved rest after your 2009 tour. You all need those long awaited rest. Thank you for those wonderful performances, may God bless each and everyone of you. See you guys, again in 2010. Mabuhay!
