ENOUGH

These blogs defending THIS Journey are fine but please bring them up when the situation calls for it.
I take time to read almost every single blog that comes up here and I consonantly keep reading these things arguing why people "dis" this current Journey. But even when that one blog does come across it seems as if there's a whole slew of "reaction blogs." These blogs here on this site shouldn't be about constantly reopening this topic but be about fun and non divisive things like youtube videos, stories, setlists etc.

Yet this "topic" is again and again reopened when someone makes a new blog defending THIS Journey. So PLEASE act when the situation arises.

I guess we're all on the same page after all.
Journey on, and Don't Stop Believing!

I think we're all saying the same thing here... The put downs are the problem, and none of us here on this blog with all of its comments are doing that. Journey on and on and on and on...

Midnightrider: I absolutely agree. There is no cause for any insults or put downs all the way around and that is what I am saying. But I actually have seen blogs where someone has merely expressed a preference for the Steve Perry version of Journey, nothing else added, and been met with a barrage of insults such as those I listed in my previous response on this thread. Why? Live and let live.

I know that YOU have not claimed to be an authority on Journey. That is not what I said. I said that SOME people have given themselves the self appointed title of authority on what constitutes a "true" or "real" fan. Read back through the blogs, you'll see what I mean.

Hellohitherehello: I never said that Midnightrider made any statement that people could not like and support the Steve Perry era of Journey. I was merely agreeing with his/her statement -

"As members of this site can choose to react however they want...and to blog whatever subject they feel they need to get out of their chests. In the same way you feel the need to blog about how you feel about this particular subject."

which therefore includes expressing a preference with out being insulted or put down for it.

Being stuck in the past, again, is a personal preference. It is an assumption to believe that this means non acceptance of the new Journey because that does not necessarily follow.

I personally accept the new Journey and think Arnel is very good but I prefer to "live in the past" with the Steve Perry Journey because (a) I prefer Steve's voice and version of the older songs above all others (doesn't mean I can't appreciate the other versions) and (b) the Steve Perry Journey era brings back some incredibly wonderful memories for me .... GOOD TIMES!! )

I do agree that trading insults over band members is a pointless exercise in futility and results in absolutely nothing more than bad feelings.

Garyg7133: Sit tight! I promise you will be hearing more from Steve in the near future.

The sad thing here is tha VERY rarely do people put Steve Perry down. Let's face it, he was "the voice" for a very long time. He was a great singer and performer. He has moved on as have the current members of Journey. I'm sure SP could have continued to be hugely successful in the music industry had he chosen to. He didn't. Journey continues on with a great new singer and IMO Revelation is their strongest release since Frontiers. (and I really liked Arrival). Let it go.

Oh boy, here we go. LOL! You're absolutely right, if anyone choose to only support the SP era of Journey, then that's their prerogative. However, when people sign up to this site and disrespect the band by saying "Journey without SP is not Journey" or something to that effect, then that's where most members take offense at, myself included. I've never claimed to be an authority on Journey. If I had, I'd ask to be paid for it. I'm just a fan, like yourself.

I've only written two blogs since becoming a member of this site. And they're not even my own. They are both a "re-direct" to blogs of two members, Jen's & Del's. If you would only read those two blogs, then maybe you'd understand where I am coming from.
Peace!

ps.
thanks for putting my "name" in your subject line..for once I feel special.

that Midnightrider said people could not like and support the Steve Perry era of Journey. In fact that is what my blog was all about... that IT IS FINE AND GOOD AND GREAT to love Steve Perry. I, too, love Steve Perry. But as 'Journey' fans, we should support 'Journey'. And reading your comment, YOU DO. You said good things about Arnel. Midnightrider is saying the exact same thing. I think what people are saying is that it's ok to love the old Journey at the same time as accepting the now Journey. THAT is supporting Journey. By 'stuck in the past' and 'can't move on'... to me.. that means that they cannot accept Journey as they are now.. and feel the need to talk bad about Journey now.

I agree totally and therefore people should be free to only want to support the Steve Perry era of Journey, if that is their choice, without having to apologise for it or be put down with such insults as "stuck in the past" or "unable to move on".

No one disputes that Journey now has a different lead singer and that Arnel is a very talented individual but it seems that the supporters of the "new" Journey want to stifle anyone who wants to support the "old".

I particularly take offense at people who give themselves the self appointed title of authority on what constitutes a "true" or "real" fan. It is ONLY one person's opinion which does not make it so.

I get tired of reading certain kinds of blogs, too...especially when the situation doesn't call for it or they are not pertinent.
