BREAKING THE SILENCE

hello all,
first i would like to say hi to all the journey maniacs out there. i finally got around to join the journey community...i had been a silent but active observer on both journey's official website and arnel's own website. having grown up with music in my blood and as a frustrated musician/drummer, journey has been one of my favorite bands of all time through all incarnations of the group, even before journey formed. i had remembered watching gregg rolie in woodstock (movie/album) with SANTANA, and neal schon later on joining in 1971 for the album SANTANA at the tender age of 15!
anyway, one of the reasons i finally got to sign up was, i have to really get something out and say a thing or two about what really bugs and gets to me ever since arnel joined the band. it's about the so called SP fans who still cling on by the tip of their fingernails and the AP haters. c'mon guys and gals. i love journey not for any individual band member, i love journey as a band, no matter who plays in it. and just to remind everybody that journey is neal schon's baby. have you seen any incarnation of journey without neal schon? would you rather have journey with steve perry minus neal schon?...then we'd have all the NS fans out there calling for the head of whoever might be on guitars (the horror!). i applauded when they moved on with steve augeri up until arnel came along. it's just like your favorite sports team...i'm a diehard lakers fan and i love them no matter who plays for the team. it's the name and not the individual member or player for that matter. i love them for their music and not who plays in it. my specific "beef" though that finally got me to join this forum is from a music critic who reviewed the santa barbara concert if i'm not mistaken...the reviewer of course did a remarkable review. but then there was this one lone comment at the bottom of the article from an SP lover bringing fire and brimstone hate to the new incarnation of the band (notice i did not mention the singer). it's just funny that after all that hate, he or she still manages to log on and read everything he or she hates about and still manages to reply and comment. to me that just smacks of jealousy and envy and i don't know what else....i wanted to say something else controversial but i will refrain from that because it would then bring me to all the haters' level, a level that is just between the ground and a snake. so to all the journey maniacs out there, keep the fire (and lighters) burning, god bless you all.

I too having trouble understanding the Pineda haters. I was class of 86..my teen years was listening to music in the 80's specially Journey. Didnt' think they will ever be as good when Perry was in the band..but Arnel filled in very well..exceeded my expectation. How many bands out there envy Journey's resurrection. They're selling out concerts and their CD debut at #5 with Arnel. I loved them with Steve and was saddened when he left. Arnel understand that he's a replacement and understands his role as well. Fans could only hope or dream their favorite band could last a lifetime...and continue playing great music. Arnel is keeping that dream alive for me.

Welcome aboard. I love both Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda. They are 2 very different people, but they both bring enjoyment into my life. For that, I truly appreciate their talents. I watched Arnel on Oprah last night. That man is soooooooo talented. I am very happy for him that his talents have allowed him to enjoy a happier and better lifestyle. He deserves it.

All the best to you too. Drop me a line sometime.

Take care.

Pat
