I recalled that interview made by CBS on Journey last year when Ross Valory said that Journey's magic is back, and to me that was a brave and bold prediction. This was before I heard Journey with heir new singer Arnel Pineda. This was before I saw them live in Chicago. This was before I mostly if not all the reviews of the band in all the cities they had been to. But after that live concert in Chicago which I was a part of, I had to ask my sister to buy me this live concert in Manila. Good God, this concert was a "must have" for every Journey fans there are on this face of the earth. The quality is excellent, if not superior as it was not done in blue-ray format. The way they captured the sound of the band and not the crowd is truly amazing. True, you want to be part of the crowd, but then again once you see the playlist in Manila, you realize of the Manila crowd is less important so to speak. You play this DVD as loud as you want and you will enjoy it more. The guitar of Neil is like another person singing to you. It is a thing of beauty to your eyes and ears. Jonathan's masterful playing the piano is a thing to behold, to relish and to savor. Ross Valory's bass speaks to you softly and yet it's crystal clear. And the drums of Dean can awaken even the dead souls of the Filipino men and women buried in the cemetery near the arena. And his voice. Dean's voice is golden. And yes Arnel. What can I say. I became a believer of this guy the moment I heard him sang in that concert in Chicago. He was and still is a revelation. Here is a guy who made Journey a band with so much power and so much soul. He is so humble in his own way that all you can do is love the guy. He is devoid of that rock star image whose ego is bigger than themselves. No. Arnel is ego free and yet when he belts Journey songs, old and new, he is transformed into a rock saviour. What a sight to behold. A rock artist singing his hearts out in front of his country men. Was this the reason why he was that good in this DVD? Nope, he was this good also in Chicago and I bet he was this good also in his last concerts. Watch out folks. Journey is destined to be bigger and better than ever.
Ross, you were absolutely right. The magic is back. If people still have some doubts, buy this DVD and you will become a true believer. I also give this concert DVD a five star.
